Sandra Doutré Shares the Society's History
Charter member Sandra Doutré shared the history of the society at the October meeting. The society formally began with a charter signed in October 1979 making North Idaho Genealogical Society a chapter of the Idaho Genealogical Society. The group originally encompassed all 5 North Idaho counties. Within a few years members were debating the pros and cons of belonging to the state society while members from Shoshone and Bonner counties felt their numbers were strong enough to start their own societies. By January 1983 North Idaho Genealogical Society had broken away from the state society and adopted the name of Kootenai County Genealogical Society (KCGS). Two other charter members, Janine Porter and Helen MacDonald, are still members but were unable to attend. |
Members Pose for Group Photos
A group of about 25 turned out to join the celebration, and a fun celebration it was with lots of delicious food and time for folks to visit. A few members shared about the influence of KCGS in their genealogical quests.
